2014, travel wise, was a GREAT year for us. We brought in 2014 with good friends in Honduras, spending a few days in Roatan and Utila – snorkeling the beautiful beaches, waking up to fresh homemade Honduran breakfasts and having a boat and captain at our disposal for daily adventures. And adventures we had!
In January, I visited Texas for the first time – spending a weekend in Austin biking around, having amazing meals, and then meeting friends in Dallas for a couple of days. Other firsts on this trip – barbecue (I know!) and kolaches!
Following that, in February we were off to Nashville for a quick weekend getaway – hot chicken, honky tonk, and helluva fun!

The highlight of 2014 was our March trip to Iceland, where we chased the Northern Lights, walked on glaciers, ate whale (!) and horse, and were blown away by the beautiful, BEAUTIFUL countryside.
We had family from India visit us in May and went to Niagara Falls and New York with them – the usual touristy stuf. As a highlight for my niece and nephew we spent 5 days in Orlando – and had a BLAST at Disneyworld and Universal Studios. Those Harry Potter rides are out of this world.
In July, I spent a warm few days with girlfriends in the Dominican Republic – where we spent days in beach shacks on Cabarete and watched the World Cup with the locals in Samana.

In August, we celebrated a friend’s birthday in “The Hamptons” – with a lovely weekend at Sunset Island.
August and September took us to India to spend some time with each of our families, gorging on all the food, laughing and fighting with families, and all around having a great time. We did a quick trip to Sri Lanka – starting with the coastal city of Galle, and then spending a few days in an amazing hillside retreat near Kandy. Sigh.
We spent a few days in October in Portland, Maine – with the beautiful lighthouses, and the most amazing lobster. I’d go back for just the lobster.
We also made a trip with our friends to New Mexico – checked off a bucketlist hot air balloon ride, and visited craft breweries galore. Oh, and Red chile all the way for me!

Come November, we hit another city I’ve been eyeing for a while with Portland, Oregon. Spent an amazing few days here, with local food, a sake brewery (definitely a must-do!), Willamette Valley wine tasting and of course, craft beer. Thanksgiving took us to snowy Wisconsin – where we spent the weekend with family in Lake Geneva. Thankfully I love the cold and snow.
After taking it easy in December, we brought in the new year with friends in Sunset Beach, North Carolina – a beautiful private beach. While it was no Caribbean, it was still warmer than here in DC, and we managed to spend a lot of our time outdoors.
So, all in all, 2014 was a fabulous year, and I hope to write about all these (from the copious notes and pictures in possession) over the next few weeks!
On to more adventures in 2015!
