February Fun - Superbowl and MardiGras!

February is a short month, but there’s lots of good stuff going on – Superbowl, MardiGras, Valentine’s day (eek, but oh well), and the Oscars to end the month. And when I mean good stuff, I mean good food and drink specials all around! Read on to find out where to celebrate!

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY

I’ll be watching the game at home with friends, but here are my top picks if you are looking for other ideas.

Penn Commons all American buffet – An all American buffet for $25, that includes copious amounts of Tito’s Vodka Bloody Mary Oyster “Shooters”, wings, Crispy Fish Tacos, sliders and lots of vegetarian options that goes alongside all day happy hour with $5 drinks. Penn Commons has 12 big screens, so this would be a fantastic option for groups.

Bar Dupont’s tailgate party -Enjoy beer specials and a fun outdoor BBQ as you watch the Denver Broncos take on the Carolina Panthers. Enjoy a craft beer super bucket special featuring two beers from the competing states to pair with grilled burgers and brats. Sounds like fun to me.

Texas Jack’s beer, bourbon and barbecue-  Orange glazed smoked wings - brined, smoked, then fried. Yes, please! $8 gets you a beer and 6 wings, or double the beers and wings  for $15.  Watch the game in the restaurant's expansive bar/lounge area and nosh on those wings and tender smoked meats, with beers for $3, or try something from their extensive bourbon and whiskey collection.  A perfect day to try out the newly opened barbecue restaurant in Arlington!

Brasserie Beck’s seafood tower – Not quite into the game, but want to score a sweet Superbowl deal? This one’s for you. Seafood happy hour time at Brasserie Beck from 4-7pm on game day, devour the Seafood Tower for half the normal price along with specialty priced Oysters on the Half Shell, Wild Gulf Shrimp, Marinated Little Neck Clams, Chesapeake Fish Crudo and more.

Nopa ‘s watch party with beers from the featured teams’ home states. $4 beer specials on Fat Tire, brewed in Colorado would be my drink of choice as I cheer on the Denver Broncos, but a milk stout brewed in Asheville, NC will also be on special. Food highlights include Chicken Bog Croquettes, roasted chicken, Carolina gold rice and Surryano Ham, served with a buttermilk-lemon aioli in honor of the Carolina Panthers and Crispy Rocky Mountain Oysters with “cowboy caviar” and green chili hot sauce and Fat Tire Beer Cheese Soup with chorizo verde and queso Chihuahua in honor of the Denver Broncos.

Pennsylvania 6 oyster feast - Class it up! $1 oysters throughout the game, along with $5 draft beers at this newly opened seafood destination in downtown DC. Does not get better than this. While you are there, get the lobster roll - one of the best in the city, as I discovered at lunch there.

Macon Bistro and Larder watch party – Specials on Wine, draft beer, and cocktails at Macon along with a variety of snacks for gametime munching make this a perfect low key spot to watch the game, and enjoy some French and Southern inspired food.

MARDI GRAS

BlackJack The popular 14th Street bar will be decked out in elaborate carnival decorations, transporting you to the French Quarter, while the food and drink menu will change entirely featuring classic New Orleans cocktails and Cajun bar food. The festivities start on February 6 and run through Mardi Gras on February 9.

Bayou The 5th Annual Bayou Gras block party is being hosted at Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery's Capitol Hill location for the first time! And Chef/Owner David Guas is DC's only native born New Orleanian chef so this is sure to be an epic and authentic Mardi Gras celebration. On Tuesday, Feb 9 from 6-9pm, you can enjoy authentic N’awlins grub such as jambalaya, gumbo, and king cake, and a pop-up cocktail bar from Gina Chersevani (of Buffalo Bergen fame)

Acadiana  The Louisiana style fish-house, Acadiana, will celebrate with a blowout bash on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in its bar, lounge and patio areas (with heaters). Feast like it is Fat Tuesday on signature carnival appetizers ranging from Mini Muffalettas to Deviled Eggs, set to the tunes of a live New Orleans-style jazz band.

Round Robin Bar From Monday, February 1, through Tuesday, February 9, enjoy Mardi Gras-themed cocktails for $15 in the iconic bar at the Willard InterContinental. Choose from specialty cocktails such as the Vieux Carre with rye whiskey, cognac, sweet vermouth, Benedictine, and bitters, the Brandy Milk Punch with cognac and vanilla extract, and the Bayou Bloody Mary with Tito’s vodka, tabasco sauce, and spicy green beans garnished with crawfish. New Orleans favorites like the Hurricane and Sazerac will also be available. For food, try the New Orleans po-boy on a French baguette or the seafood gumbo!

Stay tuned for more February specials!
